5 Reasons to Take Weekend Trips

When I came home from the high of an action-packed life abroad, I knew I had to find a way to keep adventure alive.

But how? Weeks are packed with work and meetings. To find time to enjoy a meal with friends was now a luxury! How could we keep ourselves from falling into the easy routines of everyday life? How could we once again shake things up for us?

It was simple - We just had to pritorize travel once again. If you want to travel, if you want to take trips, you must make plans and you must make it happen. This was the advice we set aside for ourselves and then made a list of the places we wanted to visit. A year later, we've visited all those places in a series of planned weekend trips!

These weekend trips have been the source of our stories, laughs, pictures, and experiences for the past year. I'm still #tbt ing until the next one.

1. It feels so good to look forward to a trip on the calendar.

Decide a good weekend for everyone and WRITE IT DOWN. This is the first step to making anything happen. Now it's not just talk, it's print! Now for the next week or the week after, you are working towards a trip. You've got work, chores, but you've got this because you're going to take a little vacation soon!

You have the keys to the city. You have the potential to have a 5-star weekend, a critic endorsed three days in a city by going to the hidden gems.

You'll learn the new museum exhibit is free admission before noon which gives you time to pick up Thrillest and Yelp's 5-star bagels down the street.

Case in Point: Pictured left, Fairmount Bagel on our roadtrip to Montreal, Canada.

Take the time before your trip in the week of anticipation to look up what you want out of your trip. Look for events, restaurants, and the sites even the locals go to. Today with sites like these, you easily get the best of a city in three days!

If you have a friend or family member in town, that's great! If not, hostelworld has always ensured a nice & convienient place for me to stay! Some hostels have been so nice, I couldn't believe they only costed $30 a night! AirBnB has been a hit with others if you're looking for a nicer home stay! My experience with this has been equally as great!

3. You are reserving time for friends and family.

Yes, while the trip itself is exciting enough, what's actually written on your calendar is, quality time with the people I love. Whether you're gathering your significant other, your friends, or your family, you are taking a weekend off for the relationships in your life. There's a reason we travel with people, there are few things that create closer bonds. Discovering new places, trying new things, everything about travel creates memories with those around you. These trips are what you will laugh about who you love for years and years.

4. You're adding life to your year.

How easy is it not to take a weekend trip? You have errands or work to do and Boston can wait. Well guess what, Your excuse is the same next year. Don't be all talk, be all action. This is how you wanted to fill your life! Make it happen!

5. There is nothing like being a Vactioner

There is the spirit of the Vactioner that comes out of every individual in unfamilar territory that is both terrible and wonderful.

The freedom of being in a new place... for a limited time... with your people... I mean, the formula always confirms a good time. Don't go crazy, keep it in check, wear sunscreen but also...by all means, visit the dance floor...

Be a vacationer when you are a vacationer. When in Rome, in the company of your favorite people, be a weirdie if you like.

No matter what you make of your time away, it will be the kind of memories you want to take home! You'll be glad to be home but you'll also be planning the next trip.

By all means, put a trip on the calendar and work your hardest to make it happen. I'm rooting for you and all the memories you'll make!
